Q 2A. Famine/poverty relief COLLAPSE React to the articles (and TED Talk, if you wish) by Peter Singer. Singer’s article is very famous, is easy to understand, is a great example of utilitarianism, and really challenges us! Almost all of us, and our nation, should be doing a lot more to alleviate poverty than we are, argues Singer. I find that most people want to find something wrong with his argument because it ethically condemns us and makes us uncomfortable. Fine, have at it, but do your best to make it a strong argument! (FYI, in an optional section of the week 4 folder, Onora O'Neil supports a strong commitment to famine relief on Kantian grounds, trying to show, you might say, that the deontological approach is not so "over the top" or "one size fits all" as the utilitarian one.)
